If you have a memory card or a pendrive with write protection, you will not be able to delete or add any new files on it. Here are the following methods to remove write protection rights Removing using Regedit.exe • You need to open the registry editor of your PC by typing the command regedit • Navigate the key - Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies • Open the right-hand pane of Regedit.exe by clicking on write protection value • You then need to change the value from 1 to 0 • Click ok to save • Restart your computer Removing using Diskpart • Type CMD in your run box and enter • Once the window is open, you can type diskpart • Type list volume • You need to select the disk location • attributes disk clear read only • finally, clean • Exit Removing using the JetFlash online recovery option This option is helpful when your transcend pendrive is affected by 9u.exe which is nothing but a write protection virus that restricts you to modify the contents in the device • Download JetFlash online recovery (www.transcendusa.com/Support/DLCenter/Software/OnLineRecovery.exe) • Run the program • Mention the storage capacity of your pendrive for instance 1 GB, 4 GB, etc. • You can either select “repair and erase all data” or ” repair and keep existing data” • Once the process gets completed, you will be notified saying that format complete • Unplug and then again plug your pendrive • You are now able to add and remove contents in your pen drive Another way is by making some changes in Group Policy Object Editor that basically deals with read and write protection rights on hard drives and other removable media devices. All you need to do is Start -> Run… -> gpedit.msc -> OK and then Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Removable Storage Access. You can deny all the access rights for the files that you wish to keep protected from third-party access. Using the above methods, you can easily remove the write protection from your pendrive and memory card devices and store all your data on it.
